Active Travel at Villiers High School

At Villiers High School, we encourage our students, staff, and families to choose Active Travel whenever possible. Walking, cycling, or scooting to school not only promotes a healthier lifestyle but also helps reduce traffic congestion and air pollution in our community.

Active travel refers to making journeys by physically active means instead of relying exclusively on cars or motorized transport.

Why Choose Active Travel?

  • Health & Well-being – Regular physical activity improves fitness, mental health, and concentration in class.

  • Environmental Benefits – Fewer cars mean cleaner air and a safer, more pleasant environment around our school.

  • Independence & Confidence – Walking or cycling helps students develop road safety awareness and confidence in navigating their local area.

Safe and Sustainable Travel

To support active travel, we are working on:

  • Bike racks available for students who wish to cycle.

  • Road safety awareness programs to educate students on safe travel.

  • Walk-to-school initiatives to encourage a more sustainable journey.

Villiers High School and the sustainable transport advisor at Ealing Council have created an active travel map. The map was partially made by students as part of the TfL travel for

life pioneer’s challenge. The map can be seen below. You can use the link at the bottom of the page to download the map
